Ant Bully - Fantastic Film For The Whole Family

..::the following is a repost of my review for the ant bully for those that missed it::..

The movie was fantastic! The story, written by John A. Davis (Jimmy Neutron) was excellent and the (voice) acting was great. Tom Hanks produced, Julia Roberts and Nicolas Cage took the ant leads, and Zach Tyler did the voice of the main character Lucas. Bruce Campbell of Army of Darkness fame played Fugax, the comic relief of the bunch. Paul Giamatti voiced the evil exterminator from "Beals-a-Bug" pest control.

I'm sure from the preview alone you can figure out exactly what happens. Boy gets bullied, boy takes anger out on ants, ants shrink boy, and so on and so on, until the moral of the story is reached and everyone is happy at the end. So obviously I didn't expect this movie to cover a lot of new ground seeing how we already have two previous ant movies in Hollywood (A Bug's Life & ANTZ). I was wrong.

The movie comes in at just over 80 minutes and the story moves so quickly you never have time to think, "Is this still going? What time is it?" (think - Cars). This movie isn't short by any means, but you can tell it has been stripped of all the fluff most movies like this are filled with. The Ant Bully sticks to the meat of the story and this is why I enjoyed it so much. It is so much better to leave wanting more than not wanting anymore.

The movie has a totally different feel than A Bug's Life. Basically not a whole lot of cuteness (though it does have some). Kids probably won't notice this, but the adults will and that will most likely help this movie with the older folks.

The ants in the movie look more realistic than those in Bug's Life (have you ever seen a blue ant?). That being said - they are still ants. So what does The Ant Bully have to offer for visual candy that we haven't seen before? Grasshoppers? Done it. An ant eater? Don't find too many of those in American neighborhoods. Roaches? Probably would creep too many people out. So what then? Wasp. These are not the wasp living in the nest on your back porch. These suckers are pimp. The colors are bright and vibrant on them and the noise their wings make is sweet. The sound of the wasp's voices are really cool as well. I wouldn't be shocked if every boy that goes to see this movie doesn't want some type of flying wasp toy. This is the best pic I could find on the net of the wasp - not even the full thing - but you get the idea on the colors:

Overall I highly recommend going to see this movie. It really doesn't matter your age, this movie is easily enjoyed by people of all ages. I could totally see this turning into a franchise. A second movie would be great if handled with the same perfection as this one was. Maybe there is a reason to shrink Lucas again. Maybe the family moves so Lucas moves the ants with him.... Anyway - After you see it please leave your comments and tell me what you thought!
