The Arrival: PSP on US shores
Well its official: Nintendo has REAL competition in the handheld marketplace. No not the Zodiac, N-Gage, N-Gage QD, or the next Tiger handheld - I am talking about the Sony PSP (Playstation Pocket). This system will simply make you drool when you see it. It is to handhelds what the iPod is to MP3 players. At least from a distance; I have yet to actually play one and do not plan on owning one. But when you look at the Nintendo DS (which I owned and recently sold) and the PSP side by side - there isn't much of a question.
The DS's screen is smaller even if it has two, take it from me 2 screens isn't all its cracked up to be. You have to buy an extra adapter (the Play-Yan) from Japan to play movies and music on the DS. The PSP is ready to do both of those and more right out of the box. Not to mention this adapter was created for the Gameboy Advance. The graphics on the PSP are far superior to that of the DS as well. Two things the DS has over the PSP though: Mario and battery life.
Nintendo franchises is what will keep the DS alive, but battery life is horrible on the iPod and it is still #1. Hopefully Nintendo is taking notes and the Gameboy Evolution will remedy all of the DS's problems.

On a side note . . . The reason I sold my DS was due to the fact it was not online at launch and still is not. Yes it has been announced for later, but I've had the $150 system sitting around collecting dust long enough. Lets not forget the horrible launch titles. Mario 64 DS was the only one worth owning and it was a port! How many ports did the PSP launch with? Oh thats right - none. If Nintendo would have launched online the games would have sold tons more. I would have bought both the racers just to play against real people. Unfortunatly the DS is not online and will not be for a long while. If the online is what it is cracked up to be I will get it again (doubtful). I've wanted an online system from Nintendo for many years, but they are so against it that I don't think it will ever happen.
